Project description
Systemic barriers weigh heavily on marginalized communities, limiting access to education, jobs, housing,
and essential resources. Built through generations of inequity, these obstacles continue to block
opportunities and create cycles of exclusion.
The Price of Colour is a student run campaign in collaboration with Welfare Avenue that aims to shed
light on these hidden struggles, showing that the weight of the system should not define a community’s
future. In collaboration with Welfare Avenue,
this campaign empowers individuals to take action by turning awareness into collective efforts to break
down barriers and build a more equitable future.
The weight is heavy, but together, we can break it.
My role
In this campaign, I helped with both the video production and the creation of graphic posters. I worked with
the team to film key moments for the video , making sure the visuals matched the campaign's goal of
focusing on systemic barriers faced by POCs communities.
For the posters, I designed visuals on Adobe Illustrator, using strong imagery and
clear messaging to raise awareness . I also collaborated closely with the team to ensure everything was
aligned with the overall vision, making quick adjustments when needed to meet deadlines.
This project gave me great hands-on experience in video production, design, and teamwork, all while
contributing to a good cause.
Capyskills
My team and I chose two Capiskills. They are NGE.3.1: Interact and participate effectivaly with others, and
HOS.1.1: Manage tasks and deadlines.
As a team, it was important to be able to communicate our ideas in a
respectful and clear way due to the nature of the project and it was important to manage our time effectively to
meet the deadline.
Application
I'd say that the team started at a level 10 for HOS.1.1 and a level 6 for NGE.3.1.From the start everyone was
ready to do their part and to do it on time. We helped eachother with any issues we had to be able to meet the
deadline which ended up helping us. However, we did have some issues with NGE.3.1. We had some disagreements on
how to approach the project and how to present it. We were able to resolve it by talking it out and coming to a
compromise.
Present Level
I'd say that we ended at a level 11 for HOS.1.1 and a level 8 for NGE.3.1. We maintained our discipline for our
time management and as the project went on our communication skills got better with eachtother.
